Virtual Sub-Internship
VCU Urology Residency Program
We have developed a for-credit two-week virtual sub-internship for graduating medical students.
This for-credit virtual urology “boot camp” is a two-week rotation that consists of attending lectures, resident-led case discussions, and self-guided learning. It also features components unique to VCU, including live-broadcast surgeries and interactive, hands-on activities. All areas of urology will be covered, and each day of the rotation will feature a urologic subspecialty spearheaded by faculty experts. At the beginning of the rotation, we will connect you with a faculty mentor based on your long-term career goals. Your faculty mentor will orient you to our virtual sub-internship and answer any questions about our interview process and application for residency. Throughout the rotation, you will be asked to write H&Ps from simulated patient telehealth encounters. At the conclusion, there will be a written exam based on assigned reading, and you will be asked to give a presentation at Urology Grand Rounds.
Through this experience, you will gain insight into resident life at VCU urology, build lasting relationships with our faculty and residents, and expand your urological knowledge. This virtual boot camp will give you a great head start in preparation for virtual interviews and your future as a urology resident. Before the end of the rotation, you may request letters of recommendation from our faculty. You will also have the opportunity to interview key faculty members, which will serve as your formal interview for our residency program.
