Research Resources
VCU Department of Surgery
Students may need specific training or access to facilities and records before initiating a new research project. Researchers at VCU have access to a wealth of resources, and we encourage students to explore them with the support of a faculty mentor.

Clinical Research Roadmaps
To assist study teams with navigating the pathways for retrospective chart reviews and prospective studies, the VCU Health Office of Clinical Research, VCU Wright Center for Clinical and Translational Research, and the VCU Human Research Protection Program have worked together to create “roadmaps” for investigators and study teams, along with a directory of contacts for each step. The roadmaps are now available on the VCU Health clinical research intranet site (Study Team Resources – Roadmaps for Clinical Research) at https://intranet.vcuhealth.org/sites/clinical-research/ and will also be posted to the Wright Center and HRPP sites.
These roadmaps depict the current process. As we work to make processes more efficient, updates will be made and shared with the research community.
VCUHS Office of Clinical Research Office Hours
Clinician-researchers with questions about the research process or needing guidance on operationalizing clinical research within VCUHS can sign up for an OCR consult by emailing clinical.research@vcuhealth.org. In the Subject line include ‘OCR Consult’ and in the text of the email include the topic for which they are requesting assistance so OCR can ensure the appropriate staff are available to assist.
