Welcome to Transplant Surgery
At the VCU Division of Transplant Surgery our mission is to provide the best in patient care, research and education. This allows us to maintain our position as a leading authority in all aspects of solid organ transplantation.
Our rich and innovative history began in 1957, when we initiated a transplant program — one of three in the country at the time. As we pioneered transplantation, we also set the foundation for our future as a leading transplant center. The dedication of our staff has helped our program grow and develop into one that’s far more advanced than anyone thought possible just 65 years ago — learn more about the history of Hume-Lee Transplant Center.
Today, kidney, liver, pancreas, heart, and pancreatic islet cell transplantations have become routine at Hume-Lee Transplant Center.
