The VCU School of Medicine Christine B. and David E. Cottrell Surgical Innovation Suite is a state-of-the-art research laboratory that opened in May 2022. It was created through a $5 million renovation of existing space on the MCV Campus, providing a 6,000-square-foot facility for advancing surgical innovation, research, and education.
This suite has been thoughtfully designed to facilitate groundbreaking advancements in our field. The suite encompasses three state-of-the-art research operating rooms, along with dedicated lab and bench spaces. Moreover, it features collaborative meeting rooms, fostering an environment of innovation and knowledge exchange. This exceptional facility will serve as a cornerstone for our esteemed faculty in the department, the School of Medicine, the university as a whole, and as a resource for industry partners. The primary functions of this facility encompass pre-clinical translational trials, clinical disease modeling, as well as surgical training and research. Furthermore, we envision generating funds by transforming this facility into a GLP level establishment, enabling us to conduct FDA and other advanced industry studies. We are thrilled to embark on this venture and firmly believe that the Christine B. and David E. Surgical Innovation Suite will propel us to new heights in surgical research and development.
