Welcome New Faculty:

Prathab Balaji Saravanan, PhDPlease welcome Prathab Balaji Saravanan, PhD, new Assistant Director of the Islet Cell Transplant Lab.

Dr. Saravanan received his PhD at Anna University in Biotechnology. He joins us from Baylor Scott and White Health where he worked for 3 years as a postdoctoral fellow in their islet lab publishing high impact articles in renowned journals. Dr. Saravanan, Assistant Professor, will be working with Dr. Mazhar Kanak, Director, Islet Cell Transplant Lab.

VCU News: First Robotic-Assisted Kidney Implantation

On June 19, Dr. Chandra Bhati became the first surgeon to perform a robotic-assisted kidney implantation using the da Vinci Surgical System.

Congratulations: Faculty Promotion

Chandra S. Bhati, MD, MSPlease join the Department and the Division of Transplant Surgery in congratulating Chandra S. Bhati, MD on his recent promotion to Associate Professor.

Dr. Bhati specializes in liver transplantation surgery and renal transplantation, hepato-biliary surgery, hepatocellular cancer, and in robotic donor nephrectomies.

UNOS President is Guest Speaker at Teaching Conference

The Division of Transplant Surgery was proud to host Yolanda Becker, MD as Guest Speaker for May 24 Conference.

Dr. Becker is the current president of UNOS and the lead surgeon for kidney-pancreas transplantation at the University of Chicago.

Dr. Becker provided an update on the current focus at UNOS and plans for the future in transplantation.
