Pediatric Plastic Surgery and World Pediatric Project in St. Vincent, February 2018

leftquote

This past February I was fortunate to accompany Drs. Blanchet and Rhodes on an incredible volunteer surgical trip to St. Vincent, a small island in the Eastern Caribbean. In conjunction with World Pediatric Project, Dr. Blanchet has fostered an annual surgical outreach program for the past 30 years.

In a single week, we evaluated over 60 patients in clinic and performed 15 surgeries. The experience was truly life changing! The Vincentian people are incredibly hospitable, and the children that we cared for had the most loving and invested families. It was such a privilege to be able to provide these patients with the surgical care that they needed and would not have otherwise been able to obtain.

Furthermore, the nature of this program allows for the utmost continuity of care as the children remain connected with the same providers in the years to come. I hope to emulate my mentors by continuing to give my time and skill to those in need throughout my surgical career.
