Our goal is to provide the most scientifically sound care in a multidisciplinary environment in a compassionate manner.
The complexity of caring for patients with cardiac and thoracic surgical problems requires a close collaboration with specialists in multiple areas including cardiologists, pulmonologists, cardiac anesthesia, cardiac surgery critical care, perfusionists and nursing.
The goals of the research program at the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery are to provide an environment for scholarly growth through research endeavors, which enhance our ability to care for patients with cardiovascular and thoracic diseases, and to develop evidence based clinical and basic science research programs supported through extramural funding. http://www.pauleyheart.vcu.edu/research/index.html
The fundamental focus for the Thoracic Surgery residency training program is to provide an extensive clinical experience with progressively increasing depth in evaluation and management of adult and pediatric cardiothoracic conditions. Whereas it is recognized that resident performance will constantly be monitored by the faculty, and appropriate feedback rendered on an ongoing basis, formal written evaluation of resident performance will be conducted semi-annually.
